Long Hiatus

February 24, 2010 · Leave a Comment

I know, I know, I’ve been gone for way too long.

Don’t worry though. Although my status as a blogger is now almost nonexistent, I plan to make a comeback. Very soon.

So just hang in there a little longer, and I promise you I’ll be back. & Better. (:

Soultre Presents: Blu&Exile/Miguel

September 26, 2009 · 2 Comments

Wow.

So, last night I was at The Roxy rocking out to my favorite duo of the late 2000’s, Blu & Exile. My voice is husky, I woke up all clammy, and I think I’m going to be late for work, but I don’t care. It’s BLU & EXILE. I haven’t been to their show since…since January at The Key Club! Man, and the whole crew was there too: Mainframe (who I LOVE, that smooth-talker), Cash is King, Blu, Exile, his manager JK. Or was it JP? I can’t think of it anymore but the man rolls in a BMW. He’s either that good of a manager or it’s his Korean heritage coming to play, hahaha.

PERCEE P!

August 11, 2009 · 1 Comment

A few months back I had the pleasure of coming across Percee P while coming down Fat Beats LA from buy some CDs. After exchanging greetings and buying the “Perseverence” album he was pushing, I worked up the nerve to ask Percee P if I could interview him. He agreed and provided his contact information, and a few conflict of schedules later, I caught up with him at the Airliner for his performance at the weekly function The Urban Underground.

If you don’t know who Percee P is, I suggest you read up on him here.

Delays and Jhelli Beam Tour!

August 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

There’s a delay in the Percee P interview due to my unreliable laptop. That shit crashed on me last night so I’m over here at a friend’s house updating this. The interview will be up tomorrow; I’ll be working on it all night on someone’s computer. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Anyway, onto news I just found out about through Twitter (I love Twitter).

“In the wake of Busdriver’s ground breaking new album “Jhelli Beam,” the art rap progenitor is preparing to launch a North America tour, bringing his rapid fire virtuosic wordplay and exhilarating stage presence to audiences throughout the country. The Los Angeles Times remarked of a Busdriver performance: “Onstage, beneath his tongue-twisting mad-auctioneer rapping style, Busdriver’s b-boy roots come through in the form of his unimpeachable microphone skills and ability to mesmerize the crowd.” Joining Busdriver for all the shows, except in DC, will be fellow LA rapper and Good Life Café/Project Blowed alumnus, Abstract Rude.

Attached is the Busdriver single “Me Time (with the Pulmonary Palimpsest)” remixed by the talented Anticon duo Themselves consisting of Doesone and Jel. Listen here:

RIP Baatin of Slum Village.

August 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s a sad day for the hip hop community–Baatin of Slum Village has passed away today. He was only thirty-five years old.
Titus Glover, also known as Baatin (Islamic for ‘hidden’), was one of the three original members of Slum Village among Jay Dee (also known as ‘J-Dilla’, 02/07/1974-02/10/2006) and T3. The hip-hop trio were friends and went to the same high school in Detroit, their friendship forming a musical bond. The group released ‘Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1′ & ‘Fantastic Vol. 2′ in ‘97 and ‘00, and Jay Dee shortly left Slum Village afterwards to pursue a solo career. Elhzi replaced the producer, Baatin left Slum Village around 2003, and in 2004 he was “diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. He later developed a crack habit, living homeless for more than a year.”
Slum Village, now a duo, had reunited with Baatin (and also added Illa J, J-Dilla’s younger brother who now is a rapper) for a new project.
The cause of Baatin’s passing is still unknown.
Rest in peace, Baatin. I’m sure you and Dilla are in paradise.

L.A. Brakeless

July 28, 2009 · 1 Comment

Let me tell you now that L.A. Brakeless has been an experience for me.

Not only was it good music, awesome vibes, sexy bikes, attractive people and pleasant conversations, but it was also awkward, trippy, and even a bit disappointing. The event itself was fucking great, and seeing how it was my first L.A. Brakeless, I was having fun. BUT. Shit happened, I smoked the wrong weed and started tripping the fuck out. I spent a good part of the first two sets outside because I just couldn’t stand anymore and felt sick, breaking out in cold sweat. I’m telling you, L.A. Brakeless was quite the experience.

It also was the final straw–I need a show buddy. I’m dead serious about this.

guilty crush.

July 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Okay, so… I have something to confess.

I don’t know if you guys remember Tokio Hotel, you know, the German pop-rock group that was the craze a few years back? Well, I have a crush on one of the guys.

Yeah. Don’t have the hots for his twin, lead singer Bill Kaulitz though. A bit too much on the questionable-sexuality side.

I seem to have a thing for men with dreads lately.
