It’s through the magic of twitter that I learned about the late Michael Jackson’s death. Through that same medium, I also learned about Billy May’s death. You know, the guy that pitches shit such as oxiclean and kaboom on late night informercials.
I don’t watch much TV though, it’s just very fascinating for me to see how twitter does serve a relevant purpose. I spend the bulk of my life outside of my house and the tv; i guess twitter is a great utility for “spreading the news,” or in last night’s case, “spreading the rumors,” about Rick Astley’s alleged death. It’s pure bullshit, btw.
What isn’t bullshit is the death of VIBE Magazine, the self-proclaimed official magazine for urban music , fashion, cars, and electronic gadgets. Their doors opened in 1993 and was founded by the legendary Quincy Jones. However, although the first two deaths this week were of natural causes, we can only guess that the recession was the primary culprit of this historic magazine’s closing in which, i’m sure, many people were subscribed to.
well. that’s about it
here’s to you MJ– your music will live on forever
here’s to you Billy Mays– the next pitchperson will have big shoes to fill
here’s to you Vibe magazine–ehh, there’s always The Source magazine
